We Need a Better Response

NetThings ethos has always been about carbon reduction. This has been achieved through enhanced energy insight, driving behaviour change. However, using better building management and smart city technology it’s possible to achieve greater reductions. With that in mind and the capacity problems of the grid you would think incentives would be there, but they aren’t! Tim Yeo expressed concerns over the structure of the capacity market auction, which offers considerably more favourable contracts to new generators over those offering demand-side response (DSR) options. He said, “the design of the capacity market could encourage the construction of expensive new power stations” at the expense of “cheaper and greener alternative”. Proven true as this week the government approved a huge new gas fired plant.
